Once a year in August, guests can witness the hatching of the newborn turtles discovering their way to the sea. Only last year, 1842 hatchlings reached the sea safely!

Costa Navarino has been at the forefront of this program, in cooperation with the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece (Archelon), by mapping loggerhead turtle (Caretta Caretta) nests using GPS technology. In addition, The Romanos closes the beach restaurant and stops all activity near the nesting areas by sunset, whereas the location of the buildings, the special lighting installed, and the peripheral planting of bushes that act as a natural light barrier, provide sufficient protection against artificial light which may discourage females from nesting and disorient hatchlings.
